It happened on the South Loop westbound near Calais at about 5:40am. Houston police say the victim was driving a black Jeep Commander westbound on the South Loop East when for some reason the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right. The Jeep drove over a median and an entrance ramp from Calais Street, and then onto another median. The Jeep then crashed through a fence and struck a parked trailer within the fenced area, killing the driver.
Police say speed was likely a factor.
The male victim, age unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released, pending notification of family members.
