According to the Department of Defense, 35-year-old Petty Officer Second Class Jorge Luis Velasquez was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Manama, Bahrain, when he died.
Velasquez was assigned to Commander Task Force 56, which conducts maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
No otherinformation was released.
Velasquez's family tells Eyewitness News he accidentally fell from a balcony, but details surrounding the incident were unclear. They leave Houston on Monday to meet with military officials and see the body.
Velasquez was preceded in death by his mother and father, and he is survived by three sisters, the family said.
