David Keith Allen of Gatesville has been charged with capital murder and remains in the Coryell County Jail. Allen was arrested Jan. 31 and held with no bond set until Monday's hearing.
Defense attorneys sought bond no higher than $200,000. The Killeen Daily Herald reported Wednesday that prosecutors had sought $1 million bond. A fire investigator and a detective testified in favor of the higher figure.
A fire last March destroyed the mobile home of Allen and his 54-year-old wife, Paula. Investigators later classified the fire as arson.
Allen formerly led New Life Church of Restoration in Gatesville.
