Texas Rangers arrested McLennan County Tax Assessor-Collector Buddy Skeen at his office in downtown Waco after a county grand jury indicted him on Wednesday.
He was released on $27,500 bond. If convicted of both counts, he could be sentenced to up to 12 years behind bars.
The indictment accuses him of trading in a government-owned vehicle as credit for a truck he bought in February for personal use. He's also accused of providing false information on an application for a title certificate, claiming a trade-in amount of $22,000 when, in reality, there was no value. That cut his sales tax by $1,375.
Skeen declined to comment on the charges to reporters.
