Katy police say an 18-wheeler traveling eastbound crashed and ended up on the guardrail. The driver's diesel fuel tank ruptured, so crews had shut down both directions of the freeway betweet Pederson and Pin Oak Road to clean up the spill.
No reports of injuries were immediately made, but cleanup and repairs took hours, causing a massive backup on the highway during rush hour.
Crews reopened the westbound lanes at Pederson at around 5:45pm, but eastbound traffic was diverted to the frontage road hours after.
