Prosecutors in Corpus Christi reached a plea agreement with 25-year-old Lorraine Rodriguez. She pleaded guilty in October to murder and was sentenced Tuesday over the death of 21-month-old Texas Ruiz.
Rodriguez last month testified against 22-year-old Juan Javier Garza. He was convicted Friday of capital murder. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty so Garza received an automatic life prison term.
Investigators say Rodriguez on Jan. 1 called 911 to say that her son had a seizure, then the boy fell and hit his head. Rodriguez later confessed that she made up the story to protect her boyfriend.
