Harris County to offer election ballots in Mandarin

HOUSTON

Since 2000, the county's Chinese population increased by 24 percent. The Voting Rights Act requires a county provide langauge assistance if more than 10,000 citizens of one minority group, who are of voting age, do not speak or understand English well enough to vote.

Harris County also provides ballots in Spanish and Vietnamese. The county says the cost of this will not be significant because of electronic balloting.
