Texas congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul said US-born cleric and alleged militant propagandist Anwar Al-Awlaki was an American citizen who was never tried or charged with a crime. Paul described the killing as an assassination.

"If the American people accept this blindly and casually, we now have an accepted practice of the president assassinating people he thinks are bad guys. I think it's sad," Paul said.

The al-awlaki killing is reportedly believed to be the first time the united states tracked and executed a US citizen based on secret intelligence and the say so of the president.
