A designated driver was shot and killed in an argument fueled by road rage, officials said.

The shooting happened around 3:45am Sunday at an apartment complex on Plum Creek at Gulf Creek in southeast Houston.

The victim was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious condition, but he did not survive.

According to police, the suspect and another person were in a Jeep sports utility vehicle. They cut off a car, which was being driven by the victim.

An argument erupted and the Jeep followed the car to the apartment complex where the parties continued arguing.

Investigators said the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim.

The people in the Jeep stayed at the complex and the shooter was taken into custody, police said.

Officials said the victim was a designated driver for his passenger, who had been out drinking and called the victim for a ride home.

Neither the victim nor the suspect has been identified.
