Soccer player killed in car wreck near San Jacinto College

HOUSTON

Two vehicles were involved in a wreck on Beamer at Astoria in southeast Houston shortly after 7:30am. One of the vehicles, with four people inside, flipped over. One victim died, and three others were reportedly taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

According to Amanda Booren, Director of Communication and Publications for San Jacinto College, the victims were students headed to the south campus for early soccer practice. Counselors will be provided at the counseling center at South campus for students.

The victims' identities have not been released, but college officials have identified the athlete who was killed as a freshman from Dallas.

Booren said, "Our hearts go out to this young man's family, friends, soccer teammates and coaching staff."

The accident remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
