A police officer with the Houston Independent School District was injured while working an extra job in southwest Houston Friday morning.

The accident happened near the intersection of Bayberry and White Heather at about 7:40am. According to an HISD spokesperson, the principal of nearby Montgomery Elementary School had requested an officer be on hand for traffic control due to road work involving a city flood control project in the area.

The officer was struck by a car turning from Bayberry onto White Heather. He suffered a leg injury and was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
