Members of the local Ahmadiyya Muslim Community held a blood drive Sunday at a mosque in north Houston.
Mayor Annise Parker was there to donate blood as well.
The effort is part of a nationwide campaign called Muslims For Life.
The goal is to collect 10,000 units of blood. That could save 30,000 lives.
Houston is one of 50 cities participating in the month-long campaign.
