Battalion Commander Connie Hall with the San Antonio Fire Department said late Wednesday that they'll resume their search Thursday.
Officials initially were searching for the child and an unrelated woman but after interviewing witnesses told the San Antonio Express-News they could not confirm whether a woman was missing.
The fire began late Tuesday night at the Summerview apartments on the city's south side. Although extinguished Wednesday the rubble continued to smolder.
Nine residents were transported to the hospital, including two in critical condition.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
