Officers injured in crash in NW Houston

HOUSTON It happened around 2:30am on West Montgomery near Ellington, right across the street from the north police station.

Houston police say an HPD officer was northbound on West Montgomery going code one with lights and sirens on to an assault in progress call. A two-officer unit had a suspect in the back seat of their cruiser and was parked with overhead lights flashing along W. Montgomery.

According to police, the officer running to the code one thought the other officer was also headed to the same scene, and didn't realize the cruiser was actually pulled over along the side of the road. By then, police say it was apparently too late to avoid impact into the back of the parked cruiser, knocking it through a chain-link fence.

"All three of them were transported to Memorial Hospital with minor injuries and are expected to be treated and released," said Sgt. I. Izaguirre.

We're told the suspect was not seriously injured either.

The case is under investigation as part of standard operating proceedure, police say.
