Survey: Americans more accepting of risqué tunes

NEW YORK The survey conducted for the First Amendment Center and released Wednesday found that two-thirds of Americans agree that musicians should be allowed to sing songs with lyrics that some might think are offensive. That's up from 51 percent when the same question was asked in 1997.

The survey also found that 62 percent of Americans believe public schools should not have the authority to discipline students for offensive material that is posted from their home.

The Washington-based group interviewed 1,006 adults for its survey over the telephone last month. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
