According to officials, he smashed into the side of a Ford Explorer that was turning left from Deer Trail with a green light.
The driver of the Explorer died at the scene and his female passenger was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.
The man in the pickup was also taken to Ben Taub in serious but stable condition.
Deputies say he appeared to be intoxicated and may face intoxication manslaughter charges if his alcohol tests come back positive.
