LA-area salon owner gets probation for credit scam

LOS ANGELES, CA U.S. attorney's office spokesman Thom Mrozek says Maria Gabriela Hashemipour was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to five years probation, nine months home confinement and 3,000 hours of community service.

Federal officials say Perez ran up about $68,000 in unauthorized charges on a credit card belonging to a high-end jewelry designer.

The designer told investigators that other high-profile victims spotted unauthorized charges on their credit card bills after they paid at Chez Gabriela Studio.

Actress Liv Tyler was one of the first to notice that her American Express card had more than $214,000 in unauthorized charges over five months.
