According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a family was at at Magnolia Gardens Park in the 17700 block of Riverside St. when the one-year-old girl went missing.
Officials said the child had been playing in some sand by the dock. Family members found her in the water a few feet from the shoreline.
She is believed to have been in the water for as long as 20 minutes.
Emergency personnel arrived and rushed the child to East Houston Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
HCSO detectives are at the scene. They believe the death was an accident.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has identified the victim as 22-month-old Tiffany Cleto. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
