Plan to upgrade San Antonio's HemisFair Park

SAN ANTONIO, TX Consultants working with the HemisFair Park Area Redevelopment Corp. on Tuesday night presented plans to revitalize the 78-acre park.

No cost estimate was given. The city has about $20 million set aside for park improvements.

The San Antonio Express-News reported Wednesday that the proposal could include demolishing part of the convention center and relocating the Institute of Texan Cultures within the park. Other concepts include streetcar lines and a mixed-use residential area.

CEO Andres Andujar says HemisFair currently has 15 acres of dedicated parkland, but less than half is used for green space.

Andujar says a draft master plan will be presented in a few months.
