Officers said he drove into the construction area instead of staying on the safe portion of the road, and crashed in part of the construction area where concrete had not yet been poured. The Jeep flipped and when it landed, caught fire.
"It appears that he was travelling at a high rate of speed, based on the impact, at which point he loses control and it catches fire," said Sgt. I. Izaguirre with the Houston Police Department.
The driver was trapped and died at the scene.
