If you heard a big bang on Houston's south side on Wednesday night, it was a Chinese artist using an explosion to create art. Cai Guo-Qiang set off 11 pounds of gunpowder to create a special drawing. The artist and dozens of local volunteers started the project by laying panels on the floor of a warehouse then applying an assorted mix of gunpowder to a stenciled sketch on the panels.

Cai Guo-Qiang is best known for creating the fireworks for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing, China.
