Mail carrier dies after being hit by oncoming car

MONGTOMERY, TX Police say the female letter carrier was attempting a left-hand turn in to a driveway when an oncoming vehicle apparently didn't see the carrier's SUV. That driver tried to swerve, but slammed right in to the carrier's vehicle, causing it to roll over.

This morning, her employees are grieving the loss of their former colleague.

"The postmasters (are) extremely shook up," said Chief Kenneth Hudgens with the Montgomery County Police Department. "It's a tragedy we're still investigating."

The United States Postal Service said the 28-year-old woman was only three deliveries from finishing her route when she was hit.

The USPS also said her husband is a mail carrier for the area, but they weren't sure whether he was on duty at the time of the accident. Between them, they have four children.

The woman had been with the USPS since January of this year.

The other driver was issued a citation, and at this time, police don't suspect alcohol played a role in the accident.
