Houston man gets 30 years for kids' drowning deaths

HOUSTON Thirty-four-year-old /*Chanton Jenkins*/ learned his fate following a sentencing hearing Thursday in a Houston courtroom.

Jenkins pleaded guilty to five counts of intoxication manslaughter in May. He faced up to life in prison.

Police say Jenkins was driving drunk and using his cell phone in April 2009 when he lost control of his car, which was carrying seven passengers. The vehicle veered off the road and into the ditch, which had been turned into a raging river by heavy rains.
