Rapper DMX begins 90-day jail sentence in LA

LOS ANGELES Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan says the 39-year-old rapper turned himself in Monday afternoon. The sentence stems from a probation violation on a 2002 reckless driving conviction.

Mateljan says the judge ruled that the rapper cannot be freed on electronic monitoring, work release or home detention.

DMX's real name is Earl Simmons. He has been repeatedly arrested and jailed in the past decade, recently serving a sentence in an Arizona jail for violating probation by failing a drug test.

A representative for the rapper could not immediately be reached Monday, and it was unclear if he was represented by an attorney in court.
