Local soldier killed in Afghan insurgent attack

The Defense Department says a 24-year-old southeast Texas soldier has died from wounds suffered in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan. The Pentagon statement issued Monday says Staff Sgt. Jesse W. Ainsworth of Dayton, Texas, died Saturday near Kandahar in southern Afghanistan when his unit was attacked by Afghan insurgents.

Ainsworth was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
