We have an update to a water rate hike in the city of Houston. A judge in Travis County has ruled that the rate increase is legal. The rate increase had been challenged by former Harris County tax assessor Paul Bettencourt, who claimed the 30 percent hike violated the city charter.

The city itself took the case to Travis County for an opinion, and the judge ruled that the hike is legal because it's needed to pay projected costs of service, as required by state law.
