Fire burns two homes in NE Houston overnight

A fire destroyed two homes overnight on Fontinot near Evella.

A family in northeast Houston will have to find a new place to live, after fire destroyed their two homes overnight. Firefighters arrived at the houses on Fontinot near Evella just before 1am Monday, but they couldn't stop the homes from burning to the ground.

The family of seven was able to make it out safely.

"I looked out the kitchen window and it was on fire," said homeowner Jesus Cantu. "I just started screaming for my kids, 'Get out, get out, get out. The house is on fire!'"

One woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. A firefighter was also transported for burns to his hands.

Arson investigators are now trying to figure out how the fire started.
