Changes for Galveston noise ordinance

Galveston is rewriting its 50-year-old noise ordinance in response to a surge in noise complaints. City officials say the current ordinance is vague and difficult to enforce because it prohibits "unreasonably loud" noises, but doesn't define unreasonable.

The city is looking at San Antonio as a model. That city is divided into residential, business, industrial and entertainment zones, and each zone has a specific decibel limit.
