UTMB to layoff hundreds of employees

Affected employees will get 60-day notices. They are all part of the Correctional Managed Care program, which cares for inmates across the state.
The program is facing an $82 million budget deficit for next year.
UTMB cites an aging prison population, high cases of chronic diseases like AIDS and cancer and cuts in the state budget.
On average, the state spends $9.54 per day per prisoner on health care.
