Children's jewelry recalled due to dangerous metal

WASHINGTON The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Claire's Boutiques, Inc. on Monday announced a voluntary recall of approximately 19,000 "Best Friends" metal charm bracelet sets because they contain high levels of cadmium. Cadmium, if ingested, is toxic and can cause negative health effects in children.

"Consumers should immediately take the recalled bracelets away from children and return the heart lock charms or the entire bracelets to any Claire's for a full refund or replacement product," the press release said.

The bracelet sets include silver chains, metal pendants that say, "Best," "Friends" or "Forever," and heart lock and key charms made of colorful stones.

The recalled products were manufactured in China and were sold exclusively at Claire's locations nationwide from Feb. '09 through Jan. '10 for around $12.
