Landlord fatally shot by tenant in fight over woman

HOUSTON It happened around 10pm at a lot on Allison Road near S. Wayside, a piece of land on which the property owner had a tenant living in a mobile home.

According to police, Marlin Joe Brown, 67, who is the landlord and employer of the suspected shooter, confronted the 55-year-old male in his residence regarding an alleged sexual relationship between the suspect and Brown's girlfriend. Brown then began assaulting the suspect. When the suspect pushed him outside, Brown told him he was going next door to get his gun.

The suspect then grabbed his own shotgun and ran outside to hide under a trailer. Brown returned and began shooting towards the suspect and into his residence. The suspect returned fire and struck Brown in the upper torso, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said the suspect, who was not injured, turned himself over to them as they arrived on the scene.

"Apparently these people all knew each other. There was one witness and two shooters," said Jack Harvey with the Houston Police Department homicide division. "One shooter was killed and the other survived and is now in downtown cooperating, giving a statement regarding this incident."

No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is continuing. The suspect and witnesses were questioned and released at the scene.
