Katy student approached by suspicious man

Katy ISD police are investigating the claims of a middle school student who allegedly was offered a ride to school by a suspicious man.

The student was walking to Beck Junior High around 7:30am Thursday when a man drove up to the child on the northeast corner of the campus' property on Mason Road, according to a letter issued to parents. The driver offered the student a ride, but when the child, the man drove off quickly.

The suspect is described only as a black man in his 40's. He was driving a white, full-sized van with windows.

As a result of the incident, the district issued a Stranger Danger alert.

Campus administrators are encouraging parents to staff members of any suspicious activity near the school or to contact Katy ISD police department directly at 281-237-4000.
