HISD could change 5 campuses to magnet schools

HOUSTON The $12 million grant would turn Jones High School, Fondren Middle School, Garden Oaks, Dodson and Whidby elementary schools into magnet schools, each focusing on a certain specialty. The magnet theme would apply to the entire school and students from across the city would be able to apply.

Students in the neighborhood who don't want to attend the magnet would be assigned to another zoned school.
