KATY, TX A Katy family's weekend trip to visit family in the valley took a tragic turn when a high speed chase entered the freeway the family was traveling on in the wrong direction. Edinburg police say Irma Trevino, 49, and her daughter Fabiana, 13, died in the crash. Trevino's daughter-in-law Rafaela Trevino, 25, and her two kids were also hurt. Trevino's son Jaime, 7, is in critical condition, while her daughter Jazmyn, 6, is in stable.

Neighbors are heartbroken by the news.

"It's shock," said neighbor Farhat Wheed. "It's shock, because every day you can see someone, and then you heard the news like that and then you feel bad."

We spoke to Edinburg police today. They tell us they were chasing a burglary suspect when the driver went the wrong way on Highway 281. That's when he crashed head on into the Katy family. Officers are now reviewing chase procedures.

Edinburg Police Chief Quirino Munoz said, "With the facts and information available to him at the time, he made a judgment decision and of course that is something that we will review administratively and address it in the appropriate manner."

We stopped by the family's Katy home. It's empty. We've since found out Irma Trevino's husband and son are not there to comfort the remaining members of her family because Trevino's husband and eldest son are in the military and both are currently serving their country stationed in Iraq. They are now in the process is making an emergency trip back to Texas.

As for the 19-year-old suspect, he was hospitalized in serious condition and is soon to face charges.
