Authorities say a serial rapist of the elderly in south and central Texas has also been linked to four other cases of assault, burglary or both. Authorities have been investigating the rapist since January. The latest incident -- an attempted rape of a 79-year-old woman -- occurred Nov. 24 at a retirement community in Luling.

Authorities are investigating 12 incidents -- at least eight of them rapes they believe were committed by the same man. The incidents happened as far as 150 miles apart in Yoakum, Luling and rural areas of Leon, Bell and Falls counties.

Texas Ranger Chief Tony Leal says that many of the cases have been linked by physical evidence, including DNA. He says all of the victims have been elderly women ranging in age from 65 to 91 who live alone.
