Thieves hit eye clinics across southwest side

MISSOURI CITY, TX Investigators say the crooks are targeting the high-end items. In the past week five stores have been hit. The most recent break-in was early Sunday morning.

The owner believes his store was hit after 1am and the thieves got away with $30,000 worth of merchandise.

Dr. Alain Tran was sweeping up broken shards of glass outside his Eye Connection store in Missouri City hours after he says burglars smashed their way in.

"They knew what they were doing," said Dr. Tran. "They went straight for the high end stuff."

Gucci, Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren -- more than 100 pairs of glasses in all disappeared, worth about $300 each. Dr. Tran says in their place he found broken cases, drops of blood and a sledgehammer, later confiscated by police.

The thieves even left behind a rock Dr. Tran believes they used to break through some of the windows.

Local eye doctors say they've been a recent target for burglars, with three Texas State Optical offices hit just this past week.

Dr. Ly Nguyen says she was also a victim of theft herself last Tuesday. In her case, she says the thief snatched $1,500 worth of glasses during working hours and right in front of surveillance cameras. Video captured a man blatantly stuffing them down his shirt.

Local law enforcement we checked with, though, have yet to make any arrests. Dr. Tran says store owners have no choice but to clean up and keep going.

"Just go to the next day and keep working," he said.
