Vigil held for accidental shooting victim

HOUSTON As emotions overflowed outside the home where young La Torick Watson died, his mother stood among dozens of friends and family expressing her pain.

"I know La Torick is looking down and he's telling me to hold on for the rest of the kids, momma, do that," said LaTarsha Davis.

La Torick would have turned 12 years old Friday. Friends, many in tears, commemorated that birthday with a cake, and a song.

His grandmother was visibly overwhelmed by the outpouring of support.

"Caring, loving and special people that loved my grandson and family, I know," said Marilynn Davis Barker.

La Torick died on Wednesday from a gunshot wound to his head. Police say his 13-year-old brother accidentally shot him, after finding a gun in the house.

Police arrested the mother's boyfriend, Ronnie Brown, for tampering with evidence. They say he hid that gun in his trunk. Davis' gun was also found in the home but police say it was not used in the shooting.

"Whether the gun was in the trunk or in the house, it doesn't take away that it happened, it was an accident," said grandfather Henry Watson.

La Torick would have been in seventh grade next year at Gregory Lincoln Middle School where his 6th grade teacher says he was in band, as well as being a good student. She says the one thing she'll miss is his lively nature.

"It just hit me because I said I can see looking at that smile right there on his face, it was still the same. I was devastated," said teacher Rhonda Peterson.

Peterson told us counselors will be at school when classes resume in just a few days.

As for the investigation, police told us it is still ongoing and they are not ruling out any charges in the future.
