Son accused of killing his own mother

HOUSTON Though positive identification is pending, sheriff's department investigators believe the body found in that burned vehicle is Laura Palacios, 51, of Houston. She was last seen on Monday when she left her home on San Felipe, telling her husband that she was going to pick up their son, Jose Palacios, 24, near Westheimer and Eldridge.

Sheriff's department investigators say surveillance video from a gas station at that location shows Laura Palacios arriving there and picking up her son shortly after noon. Less than half an hour later, the Houston Fire Department responded to a burning vehicle near a Harris County Flood Control retention pond on Westpark. After they put out the fire, they found a badly burned body inside. The car was registered to Laura Palacios.

Laura Palacios' family has not heard from her or her son since Laura left her home. Agents at the United States border checkpoint in Laredo reported Jose Palacios crossed into Mexico at around 10pm Monday driving a black Ford F-150 pickup truck, Texas license plate 13DGP1. Investigators believe he may be headed to Monterey or Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Jose Palacios is described as a Hispanic male standing around 5'11" and weighing around 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Murder charges have been filed against him.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at 713-967-5810 or call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
