Couple sought in violent abuse case

HOUSTON Crime Stoppers and investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's office are seeking the public's assistance in locating Mirshad J. Pineda-Padilla and Jaime Rogel-Torres. Pineda-Padilla told investigators that she and Rogel-Torres are the biological parents of a one-year-girl.

On November 14, 2008, while at their house located near the 8900 block of Jones Road, Pineda-Padilla says she saw Rogel-Torres holding the child face down on the floor and hitting her numerous times on the back. He also allegedly picked her up and shook her vigorously, and slammed her down to the ground.

On November 15, the child was taken to the doctor for a fever but Pineda-Padilla did not tell the doctor about the incident the previous day. The child began exhibiting eating and sleeping disorders and began to lose weight and was constantly vomiting.

On November 20, the girl was taken to the hospital after she suffered two seizures. At the hospital, neither Pineda-Padilla nor Rogel-Torres told the doctors about the injuries the child suffered on November 14.

On February 2, 2009, both Pineda-Padilla and Rogel-Torres were charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury. The 248th District Court issued warrants for their arrests.

Pineda-Padilla was on probation for a previous charge of injury to a child involving her seven-month-old son. The 248th District Court also issued a warrant for her arrest for violating her probation.

Pineda-Padilla and Rogel-Torres are still believed to be in the Houston area. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for any information called in to the 713-222-8477 (TIPS) hotline or submitted online at that leads to the arrest of Mirshad Pineda-Padilla and/or Jaime Rogel-Torres. All tipsters remain anonymous.
