Algae-fueled jet a success

HOUSTON On January 7, Continental Airlines flew a plane on jet fuel made from algae. It was refined from oil grown in pond scum.

Scientists have now completed examining the test flight. Continental said the algae-based fuel performed the same or better than traditional jet fuel.

Jet maker Boeing, along with an algae fuel company and the Air Force, are all working together on a plan to get algae fuel produced for wider use.
