Dr. Abe Saavedra made the announcement yesterday. The random drug sweeps began after several teachers and employees were caught with various drugs on district property.

Saavedra says after 261 searches in the last few months, the problem wasn't as severe as district officials originally thought. At least 18 teachers and employees have been arrested for drugs in that time.
