The cross is being built by the Sagemont Church and is located on the south Sam Houston Tollway near the Gulf Freeway.
The cross is 170 feet tall and the horizontal beam is 60 feet long. The cross will be lit at night and will be visible for miles. At the base is a 2,500 square foot platform for special events such as weddings.
Church officials say they want the cross to serve as a symbol of hope.
