Police: Kidnapping may not be random act

HOUSTON [AUDIO: Hear the 911 call from after the alleged abduction]

The last time Susana DeJesus was seen, she was leaving work at a Catherines Plus Size store in a Pearland shopping mall Monday night.

A co-worker said DeJesus had been acting nervous the day she was abudcted. Police believe her demeanor raises some questions. They addressed the media late this morning.

"At this time, I cannot say that she knew the person that took her," said Captain Chris Kincheloe with Brazoria's County Sheriff's Office. "There may have been issues in her life that caused her concern and when this incident occurred, she may have been aware of what was happening. But she might not have been aware of the gravity of the situation when it happened." [See video from press conference]

Eyewitness News asked the Captain Kincheloe if the kidnapping may be connected to her husband's death in May 2008.

"At this time, our investigation has shown no correlation," he said. "However, that will not be ruled out until everything is nailed down."

When asked about the profile of the abductor, Captain Kincheloe described the abductor as 'mean as hell.' The suspect was photographed in the car at a bank using DeJesus' ATM card soon after the kidnapping.

If you see DeJesus, or know anything about this crime, please call the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office at 281-756-2392.

DeJesus' family is expected to make a statement at 4:30pm today.
