Just before 7am, a 49-year-old man lost control of his vehicle while exiting the Southwest Freeway at Weslayan. The car jumped the curb, struck three parked cars and hit another car that was pulling out of the La Quinta parking lot. The first car apparently lost a tire that then flew into a pillar supporting the awning in front of the building.

The car also hit a 78-year-old Brownsville man out walking his dog. That victim was in Houston to undergo cancer treatment. The dog, a schnauzer named Lady, was taken to the nearby Southwest Animal Clinic. She appears to be OK. Her owner and the driver of the first car were both taken to Ben Taub Hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

It's unclear what caused the initial driver to lose control. There's no word yet if he will face charges.
