It all began with an attempted car theft shortly after noon. Three would-be thieves targeted a white car with expensive rims at a home on Pinole near Alabonson.
A homeowner across the street came out and saw the theft in progress. That neighbor, coincidentally, just graduated the night before from the Lone Star College law enforcement course. He was studying to be a police officer.
That man came out of his home carrying a gun. Although he reportedly pointed it at the suspects, we're told he never fired a shot. Instead, he was struck by one bullet that went through his hand and then entered his abdomen.
That neighbor was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital by medical helicopter. His name and condition have not been released, but he is reportedly expected to survive.
The suspects remain on the loose. An investigation is underway.
