Suspected shoplifter drowns trying to escape

HOUSTON Investigators say 16-year-old Adam Lira, his teen cousin and an adult male shoplifted tennis shoes from a northeast Houston sports store yesterday. Lira and the man ran into Greens Bayou when they were approached.

Lira could not swim and went under. The adult went for help and was arrested. No charges are expected against the other teen.
