HISD board approves $1.6M budget

HOUSTON That budget includes a three-percent pay raise for teachers and bonuses for some of the district's lowest paid workers. Those bonuses will help with high gasoline costs.

The school board also approved a fifth and sixth grade academy and a new career prep charter high school for over-age, at-risk students.

The board also gave the green light to switch to biodegradable serving trays in school lunchrooms.
