UH softball falls in C-USA final

HOUSTON The Cougars (50-9) fell to 1-2 all-time in C-USA championship games.

Houston fell behind in the third inning when UCF scored twice. The Cougars pulled with in one in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Baillie Lott reached base on a single through the middle and scored when junior Christa Raley reached base on a Knight error.

UH tied the game in the fifth inning. With two outs, the Cougars hit three straight singles, scoring senior Amanda Grote.

UCF pulled away for the final margin of victory with a two-run homer from Tiffany Lane.

Senior Angel Shamblin (32-3) went the distance, allowing four runs on 11 hits and had nine strikeouts.

UH had four players named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team. Junior Elaina Nordstrom, freshman Jennifer Klinkert, junior Laurie Wagner and Shamblin earned nods on the team.

Houston will gather at Beef O' Brady's in Pearland on Sunday for the Women's College World Series Selection Show. The show will begin at 9 pm and the Coogs will find out their seed and the location of their NCAA Regional bid. The regional will be played on May 16-18.
