School bus driver charged after wreck

HOUSTON An HISD school bus ran into the back of a car on the West Loop near Fournace. Officials say 37 seventh-graders from Pershing Middle School were on the bus at the time for a field trip.

The driver, Algia Roberson, was taken into police custody. Bellaire police say her driver's license was suspended in March 2007.

HISD has suspended Roberson without pay, pending the outcome of their investigation. According to HISD spokesperson Terry Abbott, the district runs motor vehicle record checks on bus drivers every year, and Roberson's most recent motor vehicle record showed no moving violations and no suspended license.

One student was slightly injured. She was treated and released, and returned to class.
