Couple helps nab suspected serial predator

HOUSTON (KTRK) They followed the man after he allegedly tried to pick-up a 14-year-old girl who was walking home from school.

Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino wanted to issue some praise and also issue a warning because they say they believe that this alleged sexual predator may have tried to approach some other kids.

Daniel Hernandez is suspected of trying to lure a girl into his truck on several occasions. The 14-year-old is a seventh grader at Hartman Middle School.

The couple says they saw the girl looking scared, standing near that man's truck. When he drove off, the couple talked to the girl. She told the couple that he tried to approach her several times.

The couple followed the truck for several blocks, all the way to the Gulfgate Mall area. They were on the phone with the constable's office until they could arrest him.

This is exactly the kind of thing authorities say needs to happen.

"If something like this happens, we the law enforcement, need to be informed. I think that is just very critical, very critical. Because for us to get that information, so we can start an investigation, put patrol out there in that school after school is out so that we can do our jobs better," said Constable Trevino.

Authorities say they also found pornography on DVDs in that man's truck. They say Hernandez had his pants unzipped and had binoculars.

They also have since learned that he may be in the U.S. illegally. He has also had three previous cases of indecent exposure.

Officials say they believe there could be other cases, so if you recognize him, authorities are asking that you give them a call.
